Job Description: Special Education Evaluator
Position Overview:
As a Special Education Evaluator, you will be responsible for assessing and evaluating the educational needs of students with special needs in order to develop appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). You will collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to ensure that the unique learning and developmental requirements of students are accurately identified and addressed. This role requires a deep understanding of special education practices, regulations, and assessment methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students referred for special education services, including assessing their cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral abilities.
- Administer and interpret a variety of standardized assessments to gather data on students' strengths, weaknesses, and areas requiring intervention.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other relevant stakeholders to collect information on students' educational backgrounds, medical history, and individual needs.
- Analyze assessment results to determine eligibility for special education services and identify appropriate goals and strategies for each student.
- Develop and write clear, measurable, and individualized IEPs that align with students' identified needs, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to teachers, parents, and support staff regarding the implementation of IEPs, accommodations, and modifications.
- Monitor students' progress towards IEP goals and objectives, adjusting interventions as necessary to maximize their educational outcomes.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review and discuss evaluation results, IEP development, and progress monitoring.
- Stay abreast of current research and best practices in special education assessment and intervention to inform decision-making and ensure high-quality services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records, documentation, and reports in compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education Psychology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Valid state certification or license in Special Education or relevant area.
- Proven experience in conducting assessments and evaluating students with special needs.
- In-depth knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Familiarity with a variety of assessment tools and techniques commonly used in special education.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret assessment data and develop appropriate interventions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and support staff.
- Ability to write clear, concise, and individualized IEPs that align with students' needs and meet legal requirements.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple evaluations and deadlines.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
- Adherence to ethical guidelines and commitment to maintaining confidentiality of student information.
